Synthesis of Zinc Dimethyldithiocarbamate by Reductive Disulfide Bond Cleavage of Tetramethylthiuram Disulfide in Presence of Zn2+

The zinc(II) complex [Zn2(dmdtc)2(μ-dmdtc)2] has been synthesized directly from thiram ligand, containing a disulfide bond {dmdtc = N,N-dimethyldithiocarbamate; thiram = N,N-tetramethylthiuram disulfide}, and characterized by elemental analysis and spectroscopic methods. Surprisingly thiram, undergoes a reductive disulfide bond scission upon reaction with Zn2+ in methanolic media to give the [Z...

Spectroscopic evidence of Cu(II) and Zn(II) complexes having amino acid based Schiff base: A special emphasis on in vitro antimicrobial, DNA binding and cleavage studies

A new Schiff base ligand (L) obtained by the condensation reaction of N-acetylaceto-otoluidineand 2-aminopropanoic acid (an amino acid), is used to synthesize four mononuclearcomplexes of [MLCl] and [ML2] types (where M = Cu(II) and Zn(II); L = Schiff base) bykeeping the metal and ligand ratio as 1:1 and 1:2 respectively. This ligand and its complexeshave been characterized on the basis of diff...

Solvent induced cooperativity of Zn(II) complexes cleaving a phosphate diester RNA analog in methanol.

The kinetics of cyclization of 2-hydroxypropyl p-nitrophenyl phosphate (1) promoted by two mononuclear Zn(II) catalytic complexes of bis(2-pyridylmethyl)benzylamine (4) and bis(2-methyl 6-pyridylmethyl)benzylamine (5) in methanol were studied under (s)(s)pH-controlled conditions (where (s)(s)pH refers to [H(+)] activity in methanol). Potentiometric titrations of the ligands in the absence and p...

A computational study towards understanding the mechanism of phosphodiester cleavage by two mononuclear Zn(II) complexes.

In this study, the hydrolytic reaction mechanism of HPNP by two effective mononuclear Zn(II) catalysts was explored by using density functional calculations. With the assumption that the active catalyst is in Zn-aqua form, the water-assisted proton transfer mode was found to be energetically the most favorable one for both the catalysts among three possible reaction pathways. The rate-limiting ...

Zn(II) Coordination by Open-chain Polyamine Ligands Containing Dipyridine Units. Highly Active Dinuclear Zn(II) Complexes in Phosphate Ester Hydrolysis

The synthesis and characterization of two new open-chain ligands, L1 and L2, containing two 2,2’-dipyridine units connected respectively by a pentaethylenhexamine and a pentapropylenhexamine chain, is reported. Zn(II) complexation has been studied by means of potentiometric and UV-vis spectrophotometric measurements in aqueous solution. Both ligands form stable monoand dinuclear complexes, the ...
